Slick Leonard’s return to the Coliseum
Bobby Leonard, better known to basketball fans as “Slick,” reaches the ultimate dream tonight when he’s inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. The Terre Haute native and former IU All-America was a tremendous player in his day, but make no mistake – he’s a Hall of famer because of his time with the Indiana Pacers during their glory days in the American Basketball Association.
An up-start rival to the National Basketball Association in the late 1960s and early ’70s, the ABA revolutionized the professional game… the red, white and blue ball; the three-point shot; and allowing the slam dunk all came out of the ABA. Slick had some memorable times pulling together a group of guys that stuck around Indy for a good long time. They were the core of three championship clubs that called the Fairgrounds Coliseum home.
